چکیده
Understanding a tsunami source and its impact is vital to assess hazard. Thanks the efforts of survey teams, high-quality run-up data exist for contemporary events. Still, it has not been widely used infer mainly due computational burden forward model. In this study, we propose TRRF-INV (Tsunami Run-up Response Function-based INVersion) model that can provide probabilistic estimates near-field distribution from small number records. We tested with synthetic scenarios in northern Chile applied 2014 Iquique, Chile, event as case study. The results demonstrated reasonable estimate first order well. Moreover, case-study agree well United States Geological Survey report global Centroid Moment Tensor solution. also analyzed performance depending on uncertainty believe potential supporting accurate hazard assessment by (1) providing new insights records into impact, (2) using tool support existing inversion models, (3) estimating ancient events where no other than estimated sediment deposit exist.

متن کاملPower-law Scaling and Probabilistic Forecasting of Tsunami Runup Heights
A power-law scaling relationship describes tsunami runup heights at ten locations in Japan. Knowledge of the scaling law for tsunamis can be the basis for probabilistic forecasting of the size and number of future events and for estimating probabilities of extremely large events. Using tsunami runup data archived by the U.S. National Geophysical Data Center, we study ten locations where the tsu...
متن کاملRapid forecasting of tsunami runup heights from 2-D numerical simulations
We propose a method to compute tsunami runup heights that is based on an integration of numerical, 2-D shallow-water modelling and an analytical, 1-D long-wave runup theory. This approach provides a faster forecast of tsunami runup heights than a complicated coastal inundation model. Through simulations of potential tsunami scenarios, this approach can also be applied to long-term tsunami predi...
متن کاملNumerical methods for a reliable prediction of water wave phenomena : uncertainty quantification for tsunami runup
Aim of this study is to present robust numerical methods for shallow water equations permitting to correctly predict long water-wave phenomena. A semi-intrusive and polynomialchaos based method are coupled with a residual based distribution scheme by considering several sources of uncertainties in the simulation of a long wave runup on a conical island. Stochastic results are assessed by compar...
متن کاملHybrid Tsunami Modeling Infrastructure: Tsunami Source Data and Bathymetry Editor
The important part of the tsunami science is focused on studying the considerable influence of natural geographical objects, like islands and coast bathymetry, on the tsunami waves. Currently, such investigations are mostly implementing by physical modeling allowing obtaining good results on impacting submarine barriers on tsunami wave propagation but actually very expensive. We are designing a...
